Industry, researchers and government are working together to find new ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the offshore oil and natural gas industry. CAPP, working with Energy & Research Innovation Newfoundland and Labrador, has released three videos highlighting current research, development and demonstration projects underway related to Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore.

Projects featured in these videos received funding through the Government of Canada’s Emissions Reduction Fund. Learn more about all research development and demonstration projects funded through the offshore component of the Emissions Reduction Fund.

Electrifying Marine Transportation

“The target for the reduction is to achieve about 800 tonnes of reduction in CO2 every year.”

- Dan Vyselaar, Director of Technology & Development, Atlantic Towing

Carbon Capture and Storage

“We’re developing clean technology to try to remove carbon emissions from the offshore oil industry.”

- Dr. Michael Katz, Department of Chemistry, Memorial University

Harnessing Renewable Energy

“Currently Growler is doing an assessment of Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore to see how we can participate in the global trend. In doing so were assessing key risks that we’ve identified in developing a road map towards electrification of offshore facilities to see how we can participate in a lower carbon future.”

- Stephanie Adey, Renewable Energy Engineer, Growler Energy
